An Automation Controls Management Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, installing, and managing equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. The main objective of the work of CI engineer is to ensure that these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely. CI engineers need a thorough understanding of the operational processes of an organization and have a truly multidisciplinary role, working closely with colleagues across a number of functions, including operations, finance, purchasing, and Information Technology. Other duties include managing members of a staff that execute these same job functions.

1. Design and develop new control systems (hardware and software) as required to ensure business objectives can be achieved
2. Lead design, and software reviews of projects to ensure project deliverables around automation systems are achieved
3. Maintain and modifying existing automation and manufacturing control systems as necessary to ensure system reliability
4. Work collaboratively with Information Technology, design engineers, project engineers, purchasers, and other internal staff as required to achieve business objectives
5. Liaise with customers, suppliers, contractors and relevant authorities (e.g. FDA);
6. Project management within cost and time constrained environments
7. Troubleshoot and problem-solve both IT systems, Industrial Automation Systems, and Plant Floor Instrumentation
8. Understand and ensure compliance with the health, safety, and environmental regulations and quality standards of the company and regulating agencies
9. Providing advice and consultancy support
10. Purchase equipment to support automation and other Capital projects
11. Write computer software
12. Develop new business proposals
Production of Functional and Software Design Specifications, PLC Software and SCADA configuration, Factory and Site based testing including production of all test documentation and on-site commissioning
Develop sub vendors to tide over resource crunch during peaks
Accept responsibility and a level of accountability commensurate with the seniority of the position
16. Provide troubleshooting help and guidance to the plant’s maintenance department as required
17. Assist in the development of a technical training program for the maintenance department in the areas of process controls, electrical systems, and instrumentation
18. Provide off hour support for troubleshooting, advice, and consultancy functions as necessary
