Whom We Seek

Based in Los Angeles, CA, the California State Director will establish HF’s first West Coast Office As part of the portfolio, the State Director oversees state programs and leads in regional advocacy policy priorities. The State Director will work closely with HF’s regional directors, leadership from the NYC Headquarters and program leads to ensure HF is moving forward with collective impact across all regions in mind.

 The position is a hybrid role and will require onsite presence at least 50% of the time (totaling 10 days a month).


Job Responsibilities:

Programs and Policy

  • Sets strategic priorities for programming and policy objectives in the region, provides feedback as it relates to the region for national policy and advocacy priorities.
  • Develop and implement programs in California and across the West Coast with our network member organizations and partners.
  • Monitor deliverables and ensure successful outcomes of funded programs.
  • Represent HF in any public advocacy initiative and approves policy positions in accordance with general HF policy and advocacy guidelines and priorities, as appropriate.
  • Provide quarterly reports to Leadership Team and Board of Directors on all programs and policy initiatives.

Development

  • Work directly with HF development department, sets fundraising goals and executes plan for California and West Coast programming.
  • Track and provide grant deliverables; oversee budgets creation for grants allocated for the region.
  • Identify funding opportunities and work with development department to assess viability.
  • Cultivate and grow local and regional funders and sponsors.
  • Ensure grant reports and updates are submitted to Development ahead of all final deadlines.

Membership/Capacity Building

  • Set strategic priorities for membership growth and capacity building provision in California and on the West Coast; anchored in California, the director may support adjacent and additional states.
  • Serve as the liaison West Coast network members with the HF NYC Headquarters, identify specific capacity building and technical assistance needs for members in the region.
  • Collaborate with state directors and other key departments to enhance and strengthen capacity building and membership services.

Finance and Administration

  • Set and manage office and program budgets and ensures administrative policies are followed as issued across HF office spaces.
  • Serve as the point of contact for questions around office lease and office administration.


Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years of professional experience and expertise in program oversight, policy advocacy, capacity building, and staff management duties including demonstrated career progression with increasing roles of responsibility.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public administration, law, public policy, sociology or social work is strongly preferred.
  • High-level, strategic understanding of social change and progressive movements backed by direct experience with culturally competent grassroots efforts.
  • Excellent communicator and writer in English and Spanish, with public speaking and policy and fundraising writing experience, who can articulate complex issues into persuadable messages to different audiences including, but not limited to, government officials, media, community leaders, policy experts, nonprofit managers, funders, and the Latino community.
  • A strong facilitator with experience in conducting trainings, managing diverse coalitions, and organizing events.
  • Relationships with government, community and business leaders in , a plus.
  • Capacity to work independently and keep organized in a fast-paced environment, manage several projects simultaneously, and adjust strategy to frequently changing demands.
  • Ability to implement vision, think strategically, creatively problem solve, exercise good judgment.
  • Able to share leadership roles, build consensus and, as necessary, take initiative and make decisions.
  • Success supervising and mentoring staff and supporting professional and leadership development.
  • Maturity, professionalism, excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to exercise diplomacy are critical.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse and remote staff and partners including New York and Washington DC staff, various issue coalitions, government officials across the political spectrum, and a range of partners regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing the Hispanic Federation’s values, mission, and goals.


Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000 and includes benefits available as of the first day of employment. Compensation comes with a robust benefits package with fully covered medical, dental, vision insurance, 403(B) retirement plan – eligible for a company match, access to flexible spending and pre-tax commuter benefits. Full-time regular employees are also provided with fifteen (15) vacation days, four (4) personal days, and paid sick time.
