Description

WriteGirl (www.writegirl.org) seeks a full-time PROGRAM COORDINATOR to support and coordinate WriteGirl’s Partner Programs which bring WriteGirl workshops to multiple schools and sites for systems-impacted teens. The Program Coordinator will work closely with WriteGirl staff to prepare and present workshops and coordinate Teaching Artists and program elements. Other duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, preparation for WriteGirl events (in-person and online), phone and email communication, data entry, research, running errands, tracking inventory, transporting and setting up event materials, light manual labor such as lifting and moving boxes of books, and more. 

Events and meetings are held in-person in Downtown LA, Pasadena, Glendale, and other locations around the greater Los Angeles area. Many are presented online. Events may include workshops in partnership with the county’s Department of Probation and other organizations. All of our staff have an on-camera presence at our online events. We’re a small team coordinating engaging programming for youth and we’re looking for a collaborative team member who can attend to the details while staying connected to our mission. While the workweek will not be longer than 40 hours, the workweek will include events and meetings on some evenings and Saturdays. Multiple Saturdays a month may be required. We anticipate that 1-2 days a week will be remote work and the rest of the week will be at either our downtown LA office or at community sites. 

Position reports to multiple managers and the Executive Director. Ability to report to more than one supervisor is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and prepare materials for all Partner Programs workshops and provide support to other WriteGirl events as needed
  • Coordinate weekly scheduling
  • Update weekly curriculum for all sites
  • Ensure timely delivery of weekly curriculum to workshop leaders
  • Ensure all paperwork (reports, student writing, assessments) are completed promptly by leaders at each site
  • Develop and manage relationships with WriteGirl Partner Programs stakeholders, including teachers and other school leadership, civic leaders, and council members
  • Communicate regularly with WriteGirl staff and Executive Director
  • Provide support to staff and volunteers as directed
  • Other administrative and coordination support for WriteGirl programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Skill requirements:

  • Self-motivated individual with highly developed organizational and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a very busy, fast-paced office environment
  • Comfortable working with volunteers
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Capable of managing deadlines
  • Comfortable juggling both regular administrative tasks and immediate/last-minute needs
  • Strong proficiency working on a Mac as well as with Gmail suite, including calendar, folders, Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), Zoom and Canva
  • Must have reliable car and insurance
  • Previous nonprofit employment history preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.


Physical Requirements:

This position includes light manual labor such as lifting and moving boxes of books. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, frequently walk and stand. The employee must also use his/her/their hands to operate office equipment and reach with hands and arms. Employee may occasionally climb, stoop, kneel or bend. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with special needs to perform essential job duties.

WriteGirl (www.writegirl.org) is a creative writing and mentoring organization for underserved high school girls and gender-expansion youth. Our mission is to help teens develop self-confidence and communication skills through writing relationships and workshops with women and gender-expansive writers. Founded in 2001, WriteGirl is dedicated to using writing as a powerful force for positive social change.
