Description

About the Organization:

UJA-Federation of New York is the largest local philanthropy in the world. For more than 100 years, we’ve brought New Yorkers together to solve some of the most pressing problems facing our community. Thanks to our network of hundreds of non-profits, we can leverage our expertise across any number of areas — including health and human services, arts and culture, and education — to care for Jews everywhere and New Yorkers of all backgrounds, respond to crises close to home and far away, and shape our Jewish future. Our reach extends from New York to Israel to nearly 70 other countries around the world, touching 4.5 million people each year.

The UJA Manhattan Division connects with donors through neighbor engagement, synagogue affiliation, community participation, and intergenerational experiences. No matter what age or stage a person is in life, the Manhattan Division is a go-to resource to connect with peers and change lives through meaningful volunteer projects, content-rich experiences, neighborhood-based networks, UJA Pride, community events, and leadership development.

We are seeking a Development Associate who will play an integral role in the engagement, cultivation, and solicitation of Manhattan donors and prospects for the annual campaign.

This position is responsible for planning and implementing key large-scale community programs and events and thinking strategically about UJA’s event strategy. In this role the Development Associate will collaborate with all departments across the organization to build a continuous pipeline of prospects and donors to UJA-Federation’s annual campaign. The Development Associate will also manage their own portfolios of donors.

Major responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the dollars raised for the annual campaign and secure new gifts through outreach, relationship building, face-to-face solicitation, telephone and email contact, and event engagement
  • Educate donors and prospects about the mission and work of UJA through one-on-one cultivation activities, agency site visits, volunteer projects, missions, educational programs, fundraising events, industry briefings and other meaningful activities
  • Think strategically about additive giving opportunities for donors through Planned Giving and Endowments and capital and special giving
  • Oversee donor portfolio focusing on donor growth, maintenance and prospecting to educate, inspire, and engage community members with UJA’s work in deep and meaningful ways including engagement of UES synagogues
  • Oversee Manhattan Division community events portfolio - including working with colleagues in all UJA divisions to think strategically about event content and pre/post-event follow up to cultivate new prospects and convert them into UJA annual donors
  • Maintain records of donor profiles and regularly evaluate campaign progress to ensure goals are being met by the close of the annual campaign

Competencies/Prior Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 1-3 years fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of issues facing the Jewish community and a passion for UJA-Federation’s mission
  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Creative, energetic, self-motivated, quick learner
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work in a team environment while pursuing individual assignments

Salary Information:

The salary range for this role is $62,400 to $66,000; commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
