The Redress Movement (“Redress”) seeks an experienced finance professional to join Redress’ remote team. This Director of Finance role is fully remote, and will support Redress’ efforts across the country to remedy residential segregation. 

About The Redress Movement 

The Redress Movement is a newly formed non-profit organization, working to organize local communities to repair the harm caused by intentional policies that segregate communities. The Redress Movement’s work centers around educating, mobilizing, shifting the narrative, and winning redress victories. The Redress Movement’s starting point is housing justice, but we work in solidarity with others who are facing the facts of history, redressing harms of the past, and healing our communities by dismantling the barriers that divide us. 

Qualifications and Position Overview: 

Our ideal candidate will possess accounting, financial management, and grant tracking and compliance experience. The right person for this position will have connections to the ways in which discriminatory housing policies and practices have segregated communities across the country, as well as a demonstrated interest in civil rights or housing justice issues. Additionally, the role requires substantial experience in fiscal management, system building and the creation of sound financial policies and procedures. The Director of Finance, together with the Executive Director, is responsible for driving organizational sustainability, and will also be part of the organizational leadership team, responsible for planning for Redress’ future growth and sustainability. 

The Director of Finance will report to the Executive Director. 

Required Experience and Characteristics: 

● A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector; 

● Strong analytical ability and critical thinking skills, as well as attention to detail and strong written communication skills; 

● An understanding of, and commitment to, the nonpartisan mission and goals of the Redress Movement, and to racial and social justice; 

● A collaborative disposition, patience, and flexibility; 

● Familiarity with QuickBooks or similar accounting software; 

● Ability to build relationships of trust and mutual respect with a broad range of people;

● Resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems; 

● Ability to work effectively and efficiently alone and within teams; self-starter and self-directed while committed to communication and collaboration; 

● Availability and willingness to travel as necessary. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

● Lead long-term financial planning; produce financial reports and conduct financial analysis and forecasting; 

● Lead Board Finance Committee and/or financial strategy meetings; 

● Provide financial updates at Board meetings, including preparing financial reports, metrics and visuals/graphics to help facilitate Board decision-making; 

● Prepare and provide monthly bank account reconciliations to Executive Director; ● Manage all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable; 

● Process and ensure accuracy of biweekly payroll; 

● Lead grant accounting function, including preparing funder financial reports and budgets, in coordination with Development Director, as needed; 

● Create and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls; ● Ensure compliance with internal financial controls; 

● Complete and file yearly Form 990; 

● Serve as liaison to financial audit firm, manage relationship with financial auditor(s), and manage compliance with audit requirements, including providing information to auditor(s) as requested; 

● Manage all financial aspects of grant reporting and compliance, including creating policies and systems as necessary (together with the Executive Director), and ensuring compliance with internal timekeeping and grant reporting procedures; 

● Negotiate finance-related vendor contracts, and maintain relationships; ● Other duties as necessary

Compensation: 

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000. Placement on the pay scale is based on the following factors: years of relevant work experience, beyond the minimum qualifications the role requires; relevant undergraduate degree (or higher) or certification received; bilingual language skills; and connections to the community.
