Aero Structures Long Island, Inc. - Westbury, NY is a build to print manufacturer of machined airframe components for the commercial and military aircraft industry.
We are currently seeking an experienced CMM Programmer/Operator to join our team. Following is an overview of the position and you are encouraged to apply if this is a match to your background.
Position Summary
The CMM Programmer position is a full time hourly role where the successful candidate will be responsible for Responsible for developing accurate CMM programs to inspect aircraft parts per customer engineering, using PC-DMIS. Ensures product quality and compliance by utilizing a specialized combination of skill, knowledge, communication and technical/mathematical ability.
Responsibilities
1. Develops, writes, operates, revises, troubleshoots and improves programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) using PC- DMIS software, Engineering specifications, Engineering drawings. Uses Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and sound metrology practices.
2. Uses extensive knowledge of GD&T to develop alternate methods of inspection of product. Reviews and interprets inspection methods used by suppliers and customers to validate their accuracy and effectiveness. Compares customer metrology methods to ASLI’s metrology methods for same. Determines conformance of product, to engineering drawings and specifications.
3. Participates in the RCCA process including MRB in response to product rejected.
4. Participates in audits from customers and from regulatory agencies. Develops, implements and follows up on RCCA for findings resulting from these audits.
5. Performs Over Inspection as a Designated Supplier Quality Representative (DSQR) by performing dimensional inspections, reviewing documentation, reviewing test data and Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions; submitting data by method specified by customer (website, etc.), operating scanning equipment for 2D and 3D marking, etc.
6. Reviews and interprets customer Quality Requirements to develop and implement systems as needed to ensure compliance.
7. Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI). Provides methods and tooling for inspection; obtains certifications from suppliers and writes FAI reports in accordance with AS9102.
8. Provide technical support for machining operations to ensure part quality.
9. Possess strong blueprint reading skills, GD & T, and mechanical inspection skills.
10. Solve problems and troubleshoots by using sound judgment and collaborating with other departments.
11. Has knowledge in the use of all types of standard inspection measurement equipment.
12. Maintains product quality documentation system by keeping accurate records and files.
13. Contributes to team effort by maintaining a positive attitude. This individual is flexible, analytical, and detail oriented.
14. Complies with all company policies and procedures.
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or technical school or equivalent experience Associates degree preferred or Technical School Degree preferred.
- A minimum of Seven (7) years’ experience in aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
- A minimum of Three to Five 3-5 years’ experience writing programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) required. Prefer 10 years’ experience programming CMMs. Experience programming using PC-DMIS software is preferred; experience programming using other software may be considered. Experience programming on a Brown & Sharpe machine (B&S) is preferred; programming on other CMM will be considered. Quality Assurance experience preferred.
- Certification in CMM Programming/Operator training preferred.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME Y14.5 with demonstrated experience developing, implementing and troubleshooting alternate inspection methods required.
- Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) preferred.
- Working knowledge of the AS9100 Quality Standard required.
- Demonstrated ability to use standard manual inspection tools (surface plate & height gage; vernier calipers & micrometers; plug gages; thread gages etc.)
- Experience as a Designated Supplier Quality Representative (DSQR) for one or more major aerospace contractors (General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed, etc.) preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience authorizing dispositions as a member of a Material Review Board. Ten years’ experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience writing First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
- Must be reliable and interested in full time steady employment.
