About the Role
Privacy Engineering's mission is to make Uber the industry model for consumer privacy through differentiated products and services, standards in engineering, and transparent communications. We are focusing on building both privacy technology platforms and user-facing products that give our users choice when it comes to their data, build trust, improve their data privacy, and enable our business.
We are seeking a software engineer with technical depth, product intuition, and entrepreneurial spirit to join our Privacy Engineering team. You should feel comfortable in uncharted territory as we build innovative privacy technologies and grow user trust. We need your skills and enthusiasm to help make it happen.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions to address real world privacy concerns through close collaboration with various engineering and product teams, as well as many business and legal teams across Uber
- Deliver products and platforms to provide transparency and choices to our users around their data and work towards growing user trust
- Drive excellence by evangelizing and adopting best practices on engineering standards frontend technologies and consumer privacy
Basic Qualifications
- Strong command of a frontend stack (Javascript/HTML/CSS)
- Knowledgeable in modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, etc)
- Experience using statically typed languages (Typescript, Flow, etc)
- Familiarity with principles of good user experience
- An engineering-focused undergraduate degree or equivalent industry experience
- 2+ years of software engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with other engineers and non-tech stakeholders, both to meet short term goals and to create long-term partnerships
Preferred Qualifications
- Mobile app development experience in iOS and/or Android are highly encouraged given the scale of customer-facing mobile development that team undertakes
- Security or privacy expertise. Experience in the security or privacy space would be preferred

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is $149,000 per year - $165,500 per year.
