Organization: Faith In Action East Bay (FIAEB) is a broad-based organization of congregations, schools, and allied organizations representing over 30,000 families across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, committed to building a powerful multi-faith, multi-racial, intergenerational, and prophetic force for racial and economic justice. Since 1977, FIAEB has collaborated with other allied organizations in serving residents of the East Bay – primarily people of color and low-income persons – to address a wide range of issues. FIAEB is a affiliated with PICO, a statewide coalition of progressive faith-based community action organizations whose primary mission is to train leaders in the community and provide training and tools in order for people to become economically self-sufficient, healthy and safe, civically engaged, connected to each other.
Position Summary: The Communications Manager will execute the communications plan and build public awareness of FIAEB’s name, mission, and impacts. The Communications Manager will use her/his strong writing and engagement skills to educate, provide vital information, generate important conversations, broaden awareness of and involvement in the work we do, refresh and expand our media and key influencers database and ongoing contacts, and be proactive in promoting and inspiring our target audiences. The Communications Manager will engage in creative planning and creative development of content that is distributed via collateral, social media, and online outlets.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
• Create and implement a strategic communications plan to develop a consistent and compelling brand message for FIAEB.
• Support our presence and profile among diverse audiences in the communities we serve.
• Manage the development of, and create content for, a variety of vehicles including our website, e-newsletters, email blasts, social media, press releases, annual reports, and events collateral.
• With the ED and COO, create and track tangible measures for assessing impacts of all communications activities.
Web and Social Media
• Ensure our website is vibrant, current, and reflects the ongoing work we do (housing, immigration, education, violence prevention/reduction, and special initiatives).
• Oversee and implement FIAEB’s social media strategy, manage our social media portals, and track key metrics to engage key audiences and increase positive brand awareness.
Other Responsibilities
• Support the communications needs of FIAEB events and its organizers.
• Additional tasks as may arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven work experience in position with similar responsibilities.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information effectively to diverse audiences.
• A proven commitment to the mission of Faith In Action East Bay and the self-motivation to learn and understand the organization’s work.
• Detail-oriented with excellent editing/proofreading skills.
• Knowledge of and keen interest in social media platforms.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Self-sufficiency with ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, affinity for networking and demonstrated high level of confidence and poise, with a strong customer-service orientation.
• Creativity is necessary in particular as relates to development of social media campaigns, website, and collateral materials.
• Team player.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not a requirement.
