Insider is hiring a Technical Product Manager to join our Delivery & Distribution Team. This impactful teamis responsible for the technology that powers Insider’s multi-million dollar a year syndication business, as well as our internal content databases, APIs, and overall content publishing and delivery systems.

The Role & Team:
As a Technical Product Manager on the DaD team, you will collaborate with other engineering teams, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to build and improve our systems to help achieve overall company goals with minimal tech debt. You will be a key player in the delivery and distribution of our stories to find and grow the millions of readers who make up Insider’s audience.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the intersection between technology and product, loves to get in the weeds with engineers about what they’re building, and who is looking to work in a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive environment.
This role reports directly to the Group Product Manager of SRE, Delivery, and Syndication and sits on the Delivery and Distribution Team in Product & Technology. This role will be remote with the option to come into the NYC office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the technical leads on DaD to drive and ideate key product initiatives and strategies, such as completing our monolith to microservice API migration, improving the architecture of our syndication application to make it faster, and improving our ability to monitor all of our services
- Craft thoughtful and data driven goals for your team, and identify Key Performance Indicators to measure progress
- Partner with technical leads to break down large pieces of work into incremental deliverables for long-term, highly technical projects
- Gather requirements for new initiatives from engineers and other stakeholders, and present those requirements to your team and stakeholders in the form of product briefs, user stories, or diagrams
- Field requests from external teams and appropriately prioritize work
- Prioritize and refine a backlog of tickets
- Lead a team of skilled engineers to deliver on sprint, quarterly, and yearly goals
- Run daily stand ups, sprint planning, and consistently highlight your team’s achievements to the wider organization
- Manage personal workload to ensure timely delivery of products
- Educate stakeholders and other teams on technical best practices
- Proactively identify areas of improvement in both team processes and tech stack, and present them to the team for feedback
- Frequently document and communicate the impact of the team’s work to the larger organization
The Ideal Candidate Has:
- Extensive knowledge of backend development lifecycles, principles, and best practices such as API design standards, trade offs when choosing one database over another, the ins and outs of Github, and application monitoring tools like DataDog
- Familiarity with industry best practices, and have a passion for conducting research and advocating for technical best practices
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Outside-the-box thinking and takes initiative in solving problems
- Skills in sifting through systems data and technical logs
- Excellence in time management and can juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
- A team player attitude who can maintain a high level of team morale
- Belief in the importance of journalism
- Nice to have: hands-on experience as a full stack or backend developer and can use that experience in a technical product management capacity
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
