About Systemic Justice

Systemic Justice works to radically transform how the law works for communities fighting for racial, social, and economic justice. Centring affected communities in joint litigation, Systemic Justice works to broaden access to judicial remedies for those fighting for justice and equality. We are the first organisation in Europe that works with community partners on strategic litigation by taking a community-driven, intersectional approach; that is Black-led; and has a majority BPOC team. We approach our work through an intersectional lens, and across the digital and non-digital context.

We work across three key areas to build and maintain the systems change that we need: building the power of organisations and movements fighting for justice and equality; launching community-driven litigation; and scaling impact by promoting equitable working models with the broader field of litigators.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Research Coordinator to support our growing research agenda, including our qualitative research projects; desk-based research mapping and analyses of OMCs across Europe involved in campaigns in the areas of access to justice, climate justice, policing, anti-racism, social protection and freedom of movement; responding to the research requirements of our legal teams; and gathering the testimonies and stories of racial, social, and economic injustice across the region.

What you’ll do:

Support the implementation and delivery of the Systemic Justice research plan from the development of research aims through to the reporting and dissemination of findings.
Support the Head of Research in building the research team’s infrastructure, including communicating progress and updates to the Systemic Justice team.
Maintain and update Systemic Justice’s databases of OMCs operating across Europe in the areas of access to justice, climate justice, policing, anti-racism, social protection, and freedom of movement.
Conduct qualitative research (interviews, research conversations) with OMCs and community partners across the region.
Undertake qualitative and quantitative data analysis of primary and secondary data sources.
Working with the Head of Research, evaluate the research and information needs for our strategic litigation projects.
Remain abreast of relevant data and information sources in support of Systemic Justice’s research function.
Engage and maintain relationships with OMCs and partners across Europe.
Build relationships with researchers/activist scholars across the region to ensure an up-to-date understanding of racial, social, and economic injustice to support our legal projects.
Respond to ad-hoc internal research requests to inform external facing communications (blogs, commentary pieces, op-eds, etc.).
Produce and disseminate research findings to both internal and external audiences.
Join and participate in research team and organisational meetings, discussions, reflections, and plotting, including Systemic Justice residentials and public events, as required.

Academic and/or applied knowledge of undertaking critical cause-driven, interventionist research projects in-service to racially, socially, and economically marginalised communities.
Experience of delivering mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) research projects.
Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills.
A problem-solving attitude and an appetite to innovate and apply imaginative approaches to surfacing the harms of systemic injustice.
Competent use of research software and project management tools.
A grounded appreciation and understanding of (local) community organising and campaigns.
An understanding of intersectionality and why this is of importance to our programme of research.
Fluency in written and spoken English. Proficiency in another major European language will be considered an asset.
Ability and willingness to travel extensively in Europe.
