JOB SUMMARY

Research prospective funders and write, submit and report on public and private grants.

As a skilled and persuasive writer, the Grant Writer will seek to understand

project and program objectives and convert this into compelling narratives for

funders. They will work with RREF team members to manage data on requests and

results, deadlines for submissions, timetables for reporting, and other

compliance on awards and sponsorships. The successful candidate will be able to

manage multiple, competing priorities and have access to the Foundation

Directory Online, a subscription database of private and corporate foundations.

This position is that of an independent contractor and is fully remote.

We ask for a commitment of at least 5 hours/week, not to exceed 30 hours per

month.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Research public and private grant opportunities. Discern level of match,

recommend top opportunities to pursue, outline application requirements,

compliance, and reporting obligations. Present findings – with Chief

Philanthropy Officer for Board review.

•As needed, interface with funding agency representatives as needed to obtain

additional information.

•Plan, write, and compile applications for funding in accordance with funder

expectations prior to deadlines.

•Work with RRE team members to maintain the schedule of application cycles,

reporting requirements and ongoing compliance expectations. Provide weekly

report on researched funders, submitted applications and awards.

•Seek input from RRE team as needed on programs, services, emerging needs,

capital projects, and to gather information for reports.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

•Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including the ability to

render complex ideas into plain and persuasive language. This includes good

grammar and flawless English.

•Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and guidelines, analyze

a variety of data and documents, develop creative and compelling program

narratives, and assemble effective applications.

•A minimum of 3 years of grant writing and grant research experience is

preferred in animal welfare and conversation.

•Proficient computer and keyboarding skills, including experience and skill in

using personal computers and application software, particularly Microsoft

Office and related computer programs to fulfill the requirements.

•Experience with online services and other technology tools (ex: Google Docs,

DropBox, etc.)

•Excellent time management skills; ability to juggle a number of projects

simultaneously.

•Self-directed; able to work without supervision, yet be a productive part of a

team.

•Bachelor’s Degree or higher. A combination of equivalent experience and/or

education may be considered.
