The Digital Media & Event Support Specialist will support the Creative Director of Ballet Des Moines through creative work in graphic design, website development, social media, and other digital marketing to promote and communicate the value of the organization’s work on the stage and in the community. The position will play a key role in institutional storytelling and brand management, coordinating various media platforms and communication tools to strategically cultivate audience and community. The Digital Media and Event Support Specialist will also assist in the planning and execution of BDM’s special events, including digital invitations, print materials, event websites, ticket platforms, attendance tracking, and event vendors and logistics. Working closely with the Creative Director, this position will play an essential role in supporting Ballet Des Moines’ mission by supporting strong awareness of the institution’s impact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Digital Marketing (50%)

Provide expertise and support related to:
Program and event promotion
Video/Photography
Digital content
Advertising and promotional campaigns
Work with the Creative Director to determine how best to effectively drive messaging and awareness of BDM’s work.
Support strong brand identity through multi-platform communications strategies that promote BDM’s programs, including performances, education and outreach initiatives, and events.
Create and implement digital content strategies for the website and social media and other platforms to ensure clear and cohesive messaging.
Collaborate with BDM staff to cultivate and create content and stories that meet strategic goals.
Support the Creative Director and CEO in the planning and implementation of all BDM events, ensuring deadlines and organizational priorities are met

Event Support (40%)

Support the planning and execution of BDM’s events, including but not limited to the annual Gala, Nutcracker Tea Parties, Open Rehearsals, Beer & Ballets.
Create digital and print materials for events, such as invitations, flyers, sponsor listings, signage
Create event websites, attendance tracking mechanisms, and help manage event budgets
Track attendees and manage patron communications with regard to events
Provide coordination for all events hosted by BDM, including managing guest lists, sending invitations and tracking RSVPs, securing vendors, technology support, etc.
Assist with event logistics, set up/tear down, vendor communications, and organization

Operations and Administration (10%)

Attend weekly all-staff meetings
Meet regularly with direct supervisor
Create and maintain communications calendar and share updates with staff
Track participation, engagement, and other metrics and present to staff when necessary

Must be able to attend staff meetings and other pre-arranged meetings and events.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and two to five years related communications, marketing, and/or community engagement experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior program/project management experience desired with knowledge of the nonprofit arts and cultural sector and existing community initiatives strongly preferred.

Must have demonstrated ability to handle wide-range of tasks as described and proven track record of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Must have strong written and oral communication skills and must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media web platforms; proficiency with Photoshop preferred. Experience with website content management essential.
